Lola M. Wilcoxson

Lola M. Wilcoxson Lola Mae (Bright) Wilcoxson, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

Lola was born to Lowell and Anna (Moe) Bright, on August 8, 1932 in Trego, Wisconsin. She married Merle Wilcoxson on July 15, 1954 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple had three children.

Lola was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, attending sporting events to cheer on her grandchildren (and adopted grandchildren), Southern Gospel Music, cheering for the Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawk Basketball, and rocking the babies in the church nursery. She was affectionately known by all as “Grandma Lola” and lovingly doted on her family and friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin sister Lois Taylor, siblings Lowell Bright, John Bright, Iora Davis, Carol Houston, Margaret Calkins, and Ardean Schellschmidt and Rossi Alderson.

She is survived by her sister, Julie Fry; daughters: Sue Baker (Chris), Donna Messer (Gary), and Linda Johnson (Darrel); grandchildren: Kayla Johnson, Kyle Johnson (Mellisa), Austin Baker (Misty), Klay Johnson (Kalynn), Katie Keyser (Cory); bonus-grandchildren: Steve Messer and Jeannie Barnes ; great-grandchildren: Lydia Baker, Tate Baker, Kenna Johnson; bonus great-grandchildren: Macy Tucker, Max Tucker, Ayden Reding, Ellie Reding, and Brody Reding; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who over the years became family.

Personal respects may be paid on June 4, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Manhattan Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jay Bessmer officiating.

A graveside service will be held July 3 at 11:00 a.m., at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, KS.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
