James R. "Jim" Fay

James R. James R. “Jim” Fay, age 93, died on Friday January 16, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS.

He was born on July 22, 1926 in Manhattan the son of William T. & Gertrude (Koll) Fay. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Manhattan and attended K-State University. He worked at Griffith Lumber for over 40 years and was a manager for 25 years.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.

He was united in marriage to Betty J. Fleming in 1947. Their union was blessed with 7 children.

Jim was well known for always staying busy, whether it was building the family homes, many row boats or always have projects on his mind. Jim was a true outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting & simply being a part of nature. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Above all, he loved being with his family, especially the grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents; a brother: John Fay and his half-brothers: Bill Fay & Charles McGinnes.

Survivors include his wife: Betty of the home; his children: Michael Fay of Emporia, Patrick Fay of Manhattan, Kevin Fay of Manhattan, Kelly Fay of Manhattan, Carolyn DeWeese (Dennis) of Wamego, Kim McBee (Larry) of Florida and Erin Hunsinger (Frank) of Kansas City. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a brother Patrick Fay of North Carolina; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday January 23, 2020 at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Juliette & Pierre, Manhattan, Kansas with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Lake Elbo, Manhattan.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan. A Vigil Service/Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Manhattan Catholic Schools in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
