Mary L. House

Mary L. House Mary D. House, age 91, a longtime Manhattan resident, died December 28, 2019, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina.

She was born September 22, 1928, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, the daughter of Easley and Kathryn (Rademacher) Austin.

When she was young she was a waitress at the Wiley Building Tea Room in Hutchinson, KS. Mary also worked as a secretary at Kansas State University where she retired from.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing cards at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center.

Mary was a wonderful cook and was known for her fried chicken and cinnamon rolls. She was very loving and thoughtful of others and was a great support and instrumental in helping her daughter Jody pursue her Doctorate degree from Ohio State University.

On October 7, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas, she was married to Melvin M. House. Mr. House preceded her in death on September 6, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Julie Ann House infant and Dr. Jody Lynn Wrightson; one grandson Brad Diggs; one great-grandson Gavin Diggs; and two sisters: Verna Fell and Roma Robertson.

Survivors include her two children: Marcie Dow and her husband Gary of Salina, KS, and Roger House of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren: Jason Diggs and his wife Lori, and Paula Hawley and her husband DaMond all from Kansas City, MO; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor, Andrea, Gage, Ianeda, Jaden, DaMond, Jr., Neah and Mallory; and five great-great grandchildren: Emmaline, Neriah, Myla Mae, A.J. and DeAndre.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 2nd, at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, with Reverend Melanie Nord and Pastor Gary Dow officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 P.M. Thursday at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
