Ann E. Weston

Ann E. Weston Ann Elaine (Tompsett) Weston (December 2, 1934–December 6, 2019) was the only child of Louis and Evelyn Tompsett of Dearborn, Michigan.

She attended Maple Elementary and graduated in 1953 from Fordson High School in Dearborn. She attended Henry Ford Community College and Central Michigan University (B.A.) and earned an M.A. in education from Eastern Michigan University.

In 1957, she married Dale Weston (1935–2012) of Wayne, Michigan. They settled in Dearborn, and Ann taught elementary school until the birth of their children Kathleen (1961) and Craig (1964). She later returned to educational work part-time in the 1970s.

She was passionate about women’s issues and organizations, serving in leadership positions at the local and state level for organizations such as American Association of University Women and ERAmerica.

Ann loved the outdoors, adventure, and travel. Her family owned a small cottage on Blue Lake near Mecosta, Michigan: a place that she always loved and eventually inherited. Ann and Dale also loved camping and canoeing and embarked on many such adventures with the children and with friends, including multiple-week cross-country camping trips. Later in life, they spent winters in Holmes Beach, Florida, summers at the lake cottage, and traveled the world extensively in between.

In her later years, Ann faced a long struggle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. Not long after Dale’s death in 2012, she moved to Meadowlark Hills retirement village in Manhattan, KS, where she received loving care in her final years. She died in her home at Meadowlark Hills, a few days after her 85th birthday.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Evelyn Tompsett, husband Dale Weston, and granddaughter Alison Hafer. She is survived by daughter Kathleen Hafer of St Louis, MO; grandchildren Abbey Ayala (and her husband Alex) of Atlanta, GA, and Dylan Hafer of New York, NY. Also by son Craig Weston and daughter-in-law Tracey Weston of Manhattan KS, grandchildren Sean Weston of Chicago, IL, Chloe Jex of Takoma Park, MD, and Kyle Weston of Manhattan, KS.

A private memorial service will be held at Meadowlark Hills.
