Ruth Ann Stanley

Ruth Ann Stanley Ruth Ann Stanley, passed away August 25, 2019, in Manhattan KS at the age of 77. Ruth Ann was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on March 23, 1942, to Jay Ernest and Edna Lucille Fuson. She had one sister, Maddie Lucille (Fuson), Ackley. Her mother, father, and sister preceded her in death.

Ruth Ann attended school in Helena, OK and later, Jet, OK. She married Jerry Lynn Stanley in Jet on September 30, 1961. They moved to Sandia Air Base (Albuquerque, NM) after their wedding due to Jerry’s Air Force assignment. While in Albuquerque, Ruth Ann and Jerry had their first child, Shecky Lynn. Ruth Ann and family moved back home so Jerry could attend college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. During this time, their second child, Jalyn Chad Stanley, was born. Ruth Ann also found time to complete her college degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Art. The family moved to Chicago for Jerry to complete his Master’s degree then moved back home to Jet, OK then to Helena, OK. In 1970, the family moved to Ketchikan, AK for a year. Ruth Ann taught at the Houghtaling Elementary school across the street from their apartment.

In 1971, Ruth Ann and family moved to Fort Riley, KS for Jerry’s Army assignment and to be closer to family. During this time, Ruth Ann taught reading to soldiers as part of the BSEP program.

In 1975, the family moved to Manhattan, KS. Ruth Ann completed her Master’s degree in Adult Education from Kansas State University. After her graduation, Ruth Ann began working as an advisor to soldiers at Fort Riley for Kansas State University. For more than 34 years, she would remain at K-State until her retirement in June 2013. Ruth Ann was an avid K-State fan and had season tickets for football in addition to men’s and women’s basketball from the 1970s until 2017. Ruth Ann was diagnosed with dementia in the fall of 2015 and moved to assisted living in June of 2018. Ruth Ann made many friends and loved to play card games, bingo, and show off her artistic talents.

She is survived by her daughter Shecky (Skip) Davis of Manhattan, KS, her son Chad (Kristi) Stanley of Overland Park, KS, and her ex-husband and best friend, Jerry Stanley. She is also survived by grandchildren Kaitlin Stanley of Phoenix, AZ, Zach Stanley of Overland Park, KS, Nicholas Davis of Manhattan, KS, Phillip (Jackie) Kuehl of Albuquerque, NM, Shea (Samantha) Davis of Lawrence, KS, Kelli (Josh) Massie of Vermillion, KS, and Stacie (Derek) Fleming of Vermillion, KS, and many great-grandchildren.
