Donald  L. Shepek

Donald L. Shepek, age 83, of Lenexa, formerly of Manhattan, died Friday July 19, 2019 in Lenexa.

He was born on December 14, 1935 in Narka, Kansas, the son of Joe and Leota Shepek. He served in the United States Air Force after graduating high school. He then attended Kansas State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and became a CPA.

On July 5, 1984 in Manhattan, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Chandler. She survives at their home in Lenexa.

Don worked for many years in Manhattan at his own accounting firm. He was a member of the AICPA. Also he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 17. Don served as commander four times, in 1987-1988, 1988-1990, 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, and also was Legionnaire of the Year in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his step-son Robert Paul Ward.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Steve Shepek (Deb), of Manhattan, Todd Shepek (Siri), of Kansas City, Johnette Shepek, of McPherson, Kansas; step-daughter, Alayne Ward Burton (Chris), of Shawnee, Kansas, step-daughter-in-law, Catherine Ward. His siblings, Jim Shepek (Joyce), of Fairbury, Nebraska, Gary Shepek Lana, Chicago, and Carol Shorney (Fred), of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren: Erin Shepek Hedrick (Kyle), John Shepek (Ashley), Tim Shepek (Jenna), Kaylee Ulbrich, Katie Burton Friesner (Nathan), Derek Burton, Jake Burton, Bryan Ward, and William Ward; great-grandchildren: Wyatt Hedrick, Audrey Hedrick, Grace Hedrick, Sophie Hedrick, Kailee Shepek, Aiden Shepek, Ava Shepek, and Beckett Shepek.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday July 24, 2019 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m Thursday July 25, 2019 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with the Rev. Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Don to the American Legion Post 17. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
