Dick Edwards

Dick Edwards Dick Edwards, age 83, died on Sunday June 2, 2019 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas.

He was born on December 9, 1935 in Holdenville, Oklahoma the son of Virgil L. and Eva (Robinson) Edwards. At an early age, he worked on the family farm where he learned his tremendous work ethic. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1958 and served his country honorably for the next two years. Following the Army, he drove trucks, worked on the pipeline & on May 13, 1963 he started selling cars at the Augusta Ford Dealership. Dick later worked as general manager and partner at Rusty Eck Ford in Wichita until 1981, then he started Dick Edwards Ford on January 1, 1981. To this day, he still went to work everyday at the dealership in Junction City.

On December 27, 1958, he was united in marriage to Janice Governski in El Dorado, Kansas. This union of over 60 years was blessed with 3 daughters: Gayla Ann, Tanice Marie and Deanna Lynn.

Dick learned early in life that you “live to work…not work to live” and he captured that to a tee. He still made time for his family, but his employees and customers became like family as well. He could put you in your place, but he forgot about it quickly because he wanted you to perform at the best of your abilities. Dick adored his wife of over 60 years and loved being with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchild, they were his world.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Harold, Kenny and Ronnie Edwards and 2 sisters: Katherine Keeley and Theda Winzer.

Survivors include his wife: Janice of the home; 3 daughters: Gayla Ann Edwards-Gibby, Tanice Marie Edwards and Deanna Lynn Nitschke and her husband Steve, all of Manhattan; grandchildren: Dallas Nitschke, Brock Gibby, Stevie Stewart, Dakota Ellis and Brianna Gibby; great granddaughter: Amaya Brooks, along with many other family members.
