Thomas Ehler

Thomas Ehler Thomas Andrew Ehler passed away on April 22, 2019. Thomas was born in Columbia, MO on April 13, 1969, the firstborn of Stanley W. and Phyllis C. (Pyle) Ehler.

Thomas graduated from Manhattan High School in May of 1987. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, Excelsior College (B. S. Liberal Arts, 1992), and the University of Kansas (B.S. in Civil Engineering and Business Administration, 2000).

Thomas had a fascination with the military from a young age. He enlisted in the Navy in 1990, and was trained as a Russian Linguist at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA. At his graduation he was presented with three awards: the Provost’s Award, the General Maxwell D. Taylor Award, and the Commandant’s Award. He spent five years as a Russian linguist, stationed in Goodfellow AFB, Texas and Misawa Air Base, Japan. He was commissioned as an Officer with the Navy and worked as a Civil Engineer Corps Officer with the U. S. Navy for four years at MCAS Cherry Point, NC and Norfolk, VA. He was Honorably Discharged from the military as a LTJG. As a civil engineer, he worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation, Structural Engineering Associates, and the Army Corps of Engineers. Most recently, he worked for U. S. Army Africa/Southern European Task Force, based in Vicenza, Italy.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Tatiana Soldatenko, their sons, Brian, Matthew, and Thomas, Jr., his mother, Phyllis Ehler, sisters Laura and Julie, and two nephews.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday April 28, 2019 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with Pastor Steve Ratliff officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
