Odies "Matt" R. Matthews

Odies Odies (Matt) Matthews 72 of Manhattan died April 17, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

He was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Elwood and Ethel Matthews. Matt was drafted into the Army right after graduation and served two tours in Vietnam where he earned the Purple Heart and also had a bronze star and was one of the best soldiers there ever was. He retired from the Army in 1990 after 23 years of service. Then Matt worked for the state at DCF and retired in 2015.

Matt was loved by so many people. He had friends that were family to him. He always said they were his work children and loved all of them dearly. Matt was member of the American Legion and attended Vineyard church until he became ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

He is survived by his wife Robin, of the home. He is also survived by his sons and daughter: Chris Mathews and his wife Kim, and their children Christian and Sydney of The Colony, Texas, Kevin Matthews and his wife Megan, and their children Brody and Bryson of Manhattan, Michelle Kulhman and her husband Matt, and children Tre Moore, Jaron, Gage, and Royce Fechner and Sam Kulhman, of Manhattan KS; and also his sisters, Shirley Brandenburg, Brenda Bullard, and Connie Sorrell.

A celebration of life in memory of Matt will be held on April 27, 2019, at the American Legion in Manhattan, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, there will be a lunch provided and you are welcomed to come and go as you wish.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vineyard Community Church or an animal shelter of your choice. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
