Donald "Don" Jones

Donald Donald L. Jones, age 93, died on January 22, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas.
He was born on January 8, 1926 in Cleburne, Kansas to Owen W. and Elsie H. (Anderson) Jones. Don graduated from Frankfort High School with the class of 1943.
On September 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to Caryl D. Weaver at the Beattie Methodist Beattie, Kansas. This union was blessed with four daughters: Donna, Jocelyn,
Jennifer and Jeanette. Don was a cattle and sheep farmer, an active 4-H leader and the Beattie Methodist church treasurer for many years. Don and Caryl hosted scores of school children who came to visit the farm to learn about shearing sheep and spinning and weaving of wool. Don and his wife also lovingly hosted many nieces and nephews who spent time in the summer on the family farm, learning the ins and outs of daily life in the country. Don established and ran the Beattie Roller Rink for many years. Don’s and Caryl’s faith prompted them to attend Bible School in Dallas, Texas. After their return they ministered in many ways including teaching at a Christian school, working at Living Water Ranch and as leaders at Royal Family Kids Camp for Kansas Foster Children. He affectionately became known as “Grandpa Don”. He spent many months in advance of camp preparing crafts for the children. He also volunteered as a reader for 8 years for 1st graders.
In later years Don enjoyed working in his carpentry shop along with yard work and photography. He enjoyed speaking recently in May of 2018 at his 75th class reunion.
Don most of all loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He attended Assembly of God Church and in later years UCC Church in Manhattan, Kansas.
