Virginia L. Colbert

Virginia L. Colbert Virginia L. Colbert, age 80, of Manhattan, died January 30, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born October 8, 1938in Manhattan, the daughter of Al and Nadine (Wright) Hoerman.

Virginia lived most of her life in the Zeandale Community. She attended schools in Zeandale and St. George High School, graduating in 1956.

On October 6, 1957, Virginia married Jack Colbert. They were blessed with three daughters: Sandy, Sheri and Angie.

Virginia was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, and then was a longtime member of Zeandale Community Church, served as treasurer for many years, and was very active in the choir and musical groups and Sunday school. She was also a member and leader of the Zeandale 4-H Club for several years.

Virginia worked at Kansas State University Admissions office out of high school. Later, she was secretary for the Aviation Department at KSU when it was started on the KSU Campus.

Jack and Virginia also owned and operated Hoerman Supply Company, and were involved in the company since 1960.

Virginia received her pilot’s license in 1982. She was a member of the 99’s, a pilot’s organization that was founded by Amelia Earhart and 98 other female pilots. She was also a member of the Northeast Kansas 99’s and she and Jack were also members of the Kansas Pilots Group of Konza Eagles in Manhattan.

Virginia’s greatest joy was her family and the trips they had together. Also the Zeandale Church family was very special to her.

Virginia is survived by her husband Jack of the home; three daughters: Sandy Brazzle and her husband Jim of Wamego, Sheri Morehead and her husband Larry of Zeandale and Angie Ladner of Shawnee, KS; five grandchildren: Jared Brazzle (Nicole), Luke Brazzle (Lauren), Mallory Hernandez (Rico), Megan Schmidt (John), and Lexie Ladner; seven great-grandchildren: Peyton and Gavin Brazzle, Bennett and Brooks Brazzle, Santino and Mia Hernandez, and Wilson Schmidt; one sister: Janice Doll (Larry) of Wamego; two sister in laws: Ilene Colbert and Carol Hoerman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Gene Hoerman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2nd, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ron Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery south of Zeandale.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, February 1st, at the funeral home.
