Charlotte Vinson

Charlotte Vinson Charlotte (Matulla) Vinson, age 88, of Manhattan, died December 6, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born April 3, 1930, in Neustadt O/S, Germany, the daughter of Erich and Elfrieda (Stiller) Matulla.

Charlotte was married to Douglas Eugene Vinson in Germany in 1950 and then renewed their vows on October 12, 1951, in Long Beach, CA. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States on February 20, 1958.

Mrs. Vinson was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Riley County Republican Party and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, sewing and painting, and was an avid American history buff.

Survivors include six children: Ute Richards of Topeka, KS, Ruth Knowlton of Manhattan, KS, Caroline A. Fairchild of Wamego, KS, Ralph D. Vinson and his wife Linda of Topeka, Jimmy D. Vinson and his wife Paula of Cherryville, PA, and Steven M. Vinson and his wife Kim of Pleasanton, KS; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband on January 3, 1984; by one son Douglas G. Vinson; two son-in-laws: John Fairchild and Del Richards; and by five siblings: Hilda, Annalisa, Helmut, Elfrieda and by a sister in infancy.

Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 11th, at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Father Frank Coady as celebrant. Interment will be in the Main Post Cemetery at Fort Riley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 10th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
