Joaquin Pangelinan, age 74, of Manhattan, died Sunday October 28, 2018 at the Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka.

He was born on November 25, 1943 to Joaquin and Barceliza in Guam.

Joaquin served proudly in the United States Army obtaining the rank of SFC. He also served during the Vietnam crisis. He retired after 20 years of service. After retirement, he served at Fort Riley as an IT consultant in the Education Center.

On December 28, 1983 in Columbus, Georgia, he was united in marriage to Joyce Toddy. She survives at their home in Manhattan.

Joaquin loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. He also bought a lotto ticket every Friday, hoping it might be his lucky day.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and siblings: Frank Pangelinan, Vincente Basallote, Rosita Basallote, and Antonio Basallote.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Gayla Herring (Rick), Robin Davis, Belinda Reid, Mary Coulman (Terry), Lela Colleen (Calvin), and Clara Carlew (Micky); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also his siblings: Roque Besolette (Maria), and Pedro Basallote.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday November 1, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Khory Allen officiating. Internment with military honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley in Manhattan.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Joaquin Pangelinan to the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
