Stephen D. Elmore

Stephen D. Elmore Stephen Douglas Elmore, age 91, of Manhattan, died Saturday October 20, 2018 at his home in Manhattan.

He was born on September 27, 1927 in Manhattan, the son of Chester and Mary (Baker) Elmore. He lived his whole life in Manhattan. He entered the United States Army and served during World War II and Korea. Steve served in the Army from 1945 -1948 and also from 1950-1951.

On July 7, 1953 in Manhattan, he was united in marriage to Petra “Patty” Salazar. She preceded him in death in 1986.

Steve worked as a carpenter for many years in Manhattan. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 918. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2468 in Manhattan and the VFW Post 1786 in Manhattan and he was a member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife, Patty, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Chester Elmore, Jr in 1991.

Survivors include his children: Roger Elmore (Carolyn) of Wichita, Michael Elmore (Janice) of Plano, Texas, Stephanie Levier (Mike) of Topeka, and Mark Elmore, of Aurora, Colorado; also his brother, Richard A. Elmore, of Oroville, California; and his 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday October 24, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. The family will greet friends following the Rosary until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday October 25, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Karen Abbott officiating. Following the service, Interment with military honors will follow in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Alma, Kansas.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Elmore are suggested to Homecare and Hospice, Inc. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
