Lorna M. Taylor

Lorna M. Taylor LORNA MARGRET TAYLOR, 102, of Wamego Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Good Samaritan-Valley Vista in Wamego Kansas.

Lorna was born January 12, 1916, to Herman and Amelia (Honig) Abitz, on the family farm north of Wheaton, Kansas. She attended the Lutheran School in Duluth Kansas. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1934.

Lorna was raised during the depression and worked on the family farm. She moved to Wamego in the late 1930's where she was able to find work with a minister's family for room and board. She was also a school teacher and worked for the telephone company in Wheaton, Kansas. Lorna also had a job as a cook and waitress at a restaurant in Wamego. While working at the restaurant in Wamego, she met the love of her life, Bill Taylor. Lorna wouldn't accept a date with Bill until they met at church services that afternoon.
Lorna and Bill were married on June 6, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Duluth, Kansas.

Lorna and Bill owned and operated the family farm near Wamego. She was not only a farm wife but an active partner in the farming operations. As a farm wife she raised a garden, operated farm equipment and was the accountant for the farming operations.
Lorna enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. Lorna was member of St. Luke Lutheran church in Manhattan, Kansas.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband William 'Bill' Taylor, January 14, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Ester Bosse, Richard Abitz, Emil Abitz, Emma Brunkow, Otto Abitz, Louise Abitz, Edwin Abitz, Ida Howell, Marie Zabel, and Leona Abitz.

Lorna is survived by her son Howard (Randy) Taylor, grandson Eric Taylor, granddaughter Karen (Fred) Johnson, five great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with services following at 11:00 am. Services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 330 Sunset Ave. Manhattan, Kansas. Burial will follow services at Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas. Pastor Michael J. Schmidt will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Lutheran Hour and Kansas State University-Johnson Cancer Research Center. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
