Cora Ruth Miles

Cora Ruth Miles Cora Ruth Miles, age 94, of Manhattan, died September 16, 2018, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

She was born August 25, 1924, in Star, North Carolina, the daughter of Ralph L. and Cora Ethel (Atkins) Freeman.

On September 3, 1942, in Fort Monroe, Virginia, she was married to Warrant Officer George Wesley Miles and traveled the world with him until his retirement in 1961. They then moved to Maryland and lived in Lanham, Maryland, from 1965 until 2003, when they moved to Manhattan.

Cora and George were very active in the Meals on Wheels Program in Lanham for many years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, and the Order of Eastern Star.

Her hobbies included handwork and she was prolific in cross stitch, counted cross stich and sewing. The most important part of her life was her family and she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

George preceded her in death on April 8, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Leo, Paul and Delma Freeman and Bernice Russell.

Survivors include her two daughters: Pamela Lou Carey of Osage City, KS, and Linda Ann Muller and her husband Dr. James T. Muller of St. George; one sister Thelma Mae Gadd of Asheboro, NC; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 20th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Melanie Nord Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home prior to the service.
