Kellen D. Stremel

Kellen D. Stremel Kellen Drew Stremel, age 30, of Overland Park, Kansas, died September 1, 2018.

He was born May 8, 1988, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Mark Stremel and Susan Jane McLaughlin.

Kellen attended Manhattan Catholic Grade School, graduated from Riley County High School in 2007, attended Kansas State University for one year, and in 2016 earned his bachelor’s degree from the Kansas City Art Institute.

Kellen served for four years in the United States Army from 2009 to 2013 as an IT Specialist. His decorations include the Afghanistan Campaign Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon. Following his military service, he moved to Overland Park in 2013, and was working for Allied Universal Security as a hospital security guard.

Kellen was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and Jayhawk Basketball. He enjoyed playing golf and played on the Riley County High School golf team.

Kellen is survived by his parents: Mark and Toni Stremel of Manhattan, and Brent and Deanna Carpenter of Lawrence, KS; two siblings: Kristen Zacharias and her husband Felix of Omaha, NE, and Kyle Carpenter of Lawrence, KS; niece and nephew: Luke and Maggie Zacharias; and her pet Havanese dog Tobey. He is preceded in death by his mother, Susan McLaughlin.

A celebration of Kellen’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 15th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
