Melvin M. House

Melvin M. House Melvin M. House, age 89, a longtime Manhattan resident, died September 6, 2018, at Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born December 22, 1928, the son of Irl and Agnes (Mapes) House, and had been a Manhattan resident for 59 years.

Melvin served in the United States Army, Army Air Corps, during World War II.

Melvin worked for Skaggs Ford and Brewer Chevrolet as a automobile salesman for many years and then worked for 25 years as a Storekeeper in facilities at Kansas State University.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

On October 7, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas, he was married to Mary Austin. Mary survives in Salina. Additional survivors include two children: Marcie Dow and her husband Gary of Salina, and Roger House of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers: Wilbur and Meryl House both of California; two grandchildren: Jason Diggs and his wife Lori, and Paula Hawley and her husband DaMond; eight great grandchildren: Taylor, Andrea, Gage, Ianeda, Jaden, DaMond Jr., Neah and Mallory; and two great great granddaughters: Emmaline and Neriah.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Julie Ann House and Dr. Jody Lynn Wrightson, PhD.; one grandson Bradley Diggs; and by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 11th, at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth, Manhattan, with Reverend R.C. McConnell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
