Cora Jane Bonewitz

Cora Jane Bonewitz Cora Jane Bonewitz, age 96, died Sunday, September 2, 2018, following injuries resulting from a bad fall. She died peacefully with family at her side at Stormont Vail Hospital – Palliative Care Unit in Topeka, KS.

She was born October 23, 1921, in Spearville, KS, the daughter of Glenn and Josephine (Reekie) Stinson.

Cora Jane and Edwin Ralph Bonewitz were married July 31, 1941, in Perry, KS. Cora Jane had lived in Manhattan, KS, since 1949. Due to health reasons, she moved to Legend at Capital Ridge in Topeka in January, 2018.

Survivors include her four children: Bonnie Hanson (Curt) Loveland, CO, Tom Bonewitz Manhattan, KS , Connie Ulmer (John) Topeka, KS, and Don Bonewitz (Karen) Newton, KS; seven grandchildren: Julie Streff (JR), Susie Bussell, Alan Bonewitz, Ryan Bonewitz (Jennifer), Megan Jasperson (Ryan), Adam Bonewitz (Jessica), Kyle Bonewitz (Angel); 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; her sister: Ruth Eversmeyer (Harold) of Mt. Juliette, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, a brother Bennie Stinson and his wife Jean, a sister-in-law Ellen Alwin and her husband Lawrence and three nieces.

Mrs. Bonewitz was a homemaker. She had a variety of interests. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. Cora Jane was a very creative person. She was a talented artist and enjoyed painting, flower arranging and cake decorating. She also liked bird watching and loved to go fishing.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In her younger years, she was a member of the KSU Social Club, a member and officer in a Riley County Extension unit, and was a member of NARFE. She belonged to a local widow’s group and enjoyed going to restaurants with that group of friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS, with Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation. The casket will be open one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Gardens at Kansas State University and sent to the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
