Belva Bliss

Belva Bliss Belva Bliss passed away Sunday afternoon, August 5, dying of natural causes after a short hospice stay in Manhattan, KS. She was 81 years old.

Belva was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Larry, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her three children: Laurel Richardson and husband Dwight (of Abilene, KS), Lowell Bliss and wife Robynn (of Port Colborne, ON), and Bryan Bliss and wife Colleen (of Junction City, KS.) Her beloved grandchildren are Abe Richardson, Luke Richardson, Seth Richardson, Jennifer Zimmerman, Connor Bliss, Brooke Bliss, Adelaide Bliss, Faith Bliss, and Bronwynn Bliss. Her beloved great grandchildren are Andre Richardson and Silas Richardson. She is also survived by one sister and one brother: Garetta Bleckley and husband Paul, and Stan Buell and wife Jan, plus various nieces and nephews.

Belva was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on January 17, 1937, the daughter of Samuel “Cliff” and Myrtle (Van Engen) Buell. She grew up on a farm in Allendale, MI and graduated from Coopersville High School (Class of 1955), from where she married her high school sweetheart, Larry. She trained as a bookkeeper at which she worked briefly before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She later worked on the food service staff at Eisenhower Elementary, USD 475, a job she greatly enjoyed.

Belva attended Faith Evangelical Free Church in Manhattan, Highland Baptist in Junction City, and most recently Ebenezer Baptist in Abilene. During her life, she enjoyed tending to flower gardens, sewing and quilting, teaching KG Sunday School, assisting elderly neighbors, exhibiting photos at the county fair, traveling with Larry in their RV, joining in Bible study groups and participating in a good skit or practical joke.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Evangelical Free Church (1921 Barnes Rd., Manhattan) at 5:30, on August 20th 2018.
