William Zarger, Jr.

William Zarger, Jr. William Zarger, Jr., age 96, of Manhattan, died July 23, 2018, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born September 20, 1921, in Manhattan, the son of William and Edith (Mayfield) Zarger, and been a longtime Manhattan resident.

William served in the United States Navy during World War II as a mechanics teacher. He was a self-employed sheet metal fabricator and owned and operated Zarger Heating and Air.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars # 1786 in Manhattan.

On April 4, 1941, in Alma, Kansas, he was married to Evelyn J. Loberg. Mrs. Zarger preceded him in death on August 20, 2017. He was also preceded in death by one son John Zarger; and five siblings: Grant, Perry, John and Corky Zarger and Allene Chadwick; and one step-grandson Robert Scharfe.

Survivors include six children: Joy Zarger of Manhattan, KS, Jerry Zarger (Betty) of Westbrook, CT, Susan Scharfe (Pierre) of Manhattan, Sheri West of Manhattan, Jenny Payne (Danny) of Chapman, KS, and Jeanette Stinnett (Rodney) of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned with graveside services with military honors at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 3rd, at Valley View Memorial Park east of Manhattan with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating.
