Francis W. Cederberg

Francis W. Cederberg Francis Wendell Cederberg, age 89 of Manhattan, passed away July 21, 2018 at Via Christi Village of Manhattan, Kansas.

He was born March 19, 1929 in Ashland Bottoms south of Manhattan, the son of Fred and Mary (Puett) Cederberg, and was a third generation resident of the Ashland Community.

Francis graduated from Manhattan High School in 1946, was baptized and confirmed a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Clark’s Creek, Junction City, Kansas. He also was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Manhattan. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict as a heavy equipment mechanic from 1951 to 1953. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post# 1786, American Legion Post #17 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He served as a volunteer rural fire fighter and as a posse member for the Riley County Sheriff. Other memberships include the United Commercial Travelers.

On November 12, 1954 he was married to Frances Ann Erichsen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Clark’s Creek. She preceded him in death September 12, 1997. On May 21, 1999 he was married to Leah Ruth McDaniels at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Manhattan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Mary (Puett) Cederberg, sister Margie Knilans of Janesville, Wisconsin and an infant brother.

Francis farmed his entire life, even going to the farm daily after his retirement as long as he was able to drive. During his lifetime he also worked part time as an electrician, farm implement assembler, school bus driver and as a construction laborer during the winter months when he wasn’t farming.

Francis passion was farming, loved going dancing every Saturday night, liked to fish and hunt. Most of all he enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He especially loved and enjoyed his three great granddaughters.

Francis is survived by his wife Leah of the home; son David (Donna) of Manhattan, daughters; Barbara Leith (Jay) of Concord California, Joyce Elliott (Mike) of Manhattan; two grandchildren, Jason Cederberg of Manhattan, Susan Croisant (Curtis) of Otis, Kansas; one step-grandson Brian Leith and family of El Dorado, California; three great granddaughters Taylor, Briana and Remington Croisant, and numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael J. Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery in the Ashland Community.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
