Joy Maxine Rogers, age 94, of Manhattan, died July 17, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born November 11, 1923, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Gilford and Esther Adeline (Keller) Williams. She moved to Manhattan 9 years ago from Wichita to be near her daughter.

Joy graduated from Wichita North High School in 1943 and then worked as a Nurse’s Aide during World War II. She was a financial secretary for Metropolitan Life for many years in Wichita.

On October 14, 1946, in Wichita, she was married to L. Winston Rogers.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and circles in Wichita, was a violinist for the Wichita Symphony, member of Ninnescah Sailing Club in Cheney, and had served on the Meadowlark Hills Council. She enjoyed drawing, painting, traveling, reading and gardening.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband on April 16, 2010.

Survivors include her daughter Diane Thompson and her husband David of Manhattan, and one grandson Kevin Thompson and his wife Carolyn Jones-Thompson of Lawrence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 26th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Amy Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
