Donna M. Bark

Donna M. Bark Donna Marie Bark (neé Joyce), 88, died peacefully Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Meadowlark Retirement Community in Manhattan. Uncomplaining, ever courteous and considerate and of an indomitable spirit, Donna will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now with the angels.

Donna was born November 24, 1929 to Clarence and Lois Joyce, who farmed 160 acres north of Emmett, Kansas. She graduated from Havensville High School then attended Stormont-Vail Nursing School in Topeka and graduated to become a Registered Nurse. Donna married Melvin Lee Worthington of Perry Kansas in 1951 and moved with him to Iowa where Melvin established a large-animal veterinary medicine practice in Marengo, Iowa. Donna gave birth to and raised three sons, Steven Lee (1954), Stanley Craig (1955) and Stuart Patrick (1958). After Melvin’s death in 1961 Donna moved to Manhattan where she remained until her death. Donna was remarried on August 22, 1964 to L. Dean Bark, a Professor of Agricultural Climatology at KSU and they enjoyed 46 years together until Dean’s death in 2010. Donna raised her family at 1741 Fairview from August 1961 until she and Dean moved to Meadowlark Circle in 2006.

Donna returned to her profession for several years at a Senior citizen’s nursing home in Manhattan. She loved to golf and was a great traveller. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Donna was always a pillar of strength and loving support for her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Collin’s House, Meadowlark Retirement Community for their expert devotion and solicitude during the past 18 months whilst Donna was in their care.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Bark, Leawood, Kansas; Stanley Bark, Crans-pres-Celigny, Switzerland and Stuart Bark, Dallas, Texas, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Andrew Worthington Bark.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday June 29, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 601 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with The Very Reverend A. Patrick Funston officiating. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date in Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan, KS.
