Vina E. Disberger - Paul

Vina E. Disberger - Paul Vina Evelyn Disberger Paul, age 84, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on June 4, 2018 in her home, in the presence of her husband and many of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was born March 8, 1934 to Connell J. and Margaret (Johnson) Plunkett (both deceased), she is survived by her siblings; Vera Lewis, Treva Arnett, Lela Haglund,
and Richard Plunkett. Vina grew up on her family’s homestead near Syracuse, KS.

While attending Kansas State University, she met Jay M. Disberger, and they were married in 1956. Both of them were educators, Vina a kindergarten teacher and reading specialist, and they impacted many children’s lives in wonderful ways, but their own nine children were the jewels in their crown.

Vina is survived by her children Colleen (Mark) Johnson, Dennis (Martha), Patrick, Mike (Kim), Connie (Nick) Hart, Carol (Dennis) Wright, Russell (Mary), David (Kim), and Robert (Tonya). She is survived by 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her first-born granddaughter, Geraldine M. Johnson.

Jay preceded Vina in death in 1986. Eventually Vina met Dr. Robert Paul, also a widower, and they were married in 1992. They have worked together, traveled together, and enjoyed their golden years in Manhattan. Bob survives Vina.

Vina was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer about nine months ago, and her courage and fortitude, matched with the love and support of her family, made it possible to extend her life by many months. With the same courage, she made the decision to come home and be near family to live out her final days, where she was surrounded by those she loved most in this world. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to echo in the lives of those who love her most.
