Dorothy Jean Tarrant

Dorothy Jean Tarrant Dorothy Jean Tarrant, age 91, died May 8, 2018 at her residence in Durant, Oklahoma.

She was born to Thomas and Alma Moore on February 7, 1927 in Pipestone County, Minnesota—the youngest of six children. Known as “Sis” throughout her life by her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, Dorothy completed elementary and high school in Pipestone, then continued school as a physical education major at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.

While at Morningside, Dorothy met her life’s love, Donald Tarrant. Following a whirlwind romance that she remembered as lasting only four months, Dorothy and Don were married in Pipestone on September 1, 1946. Don’s service in the United States Air Force took them to a variety of places, both domestic and overseas—Don the soldier with Dorothy the nurturing wife, mother and always solid foundation of the family home. Dorothy and Don had four children, Nancy, Debbie, Jeff and Kerry.

Following Don’s Air Force retirement in 1970, Manhattan, Kansas became their home. Dorothy was passionate about anything in which her kids were involved. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid fan of Kansas State athletics, and delighted in spending time with her Grace Baptist Church extended family. Dorothy’s final years were spent in Durant, Oklahoma, close to family, receiving visitors, and enjoying the company of the staff and senior community at Featherstone Assisted Living. Always gracious and quick with a kind word and smile, Dorothy lived a life filled with devotion in serving her God, serving her family, and serving others.

Dorothy is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her four children, Nancy Thompson and husband Gary of Oskaloosa, Kansas; Debbie Eggers and husband Jeff of San Antonio, Texas; Jeff Tarrant and wife Angie of Durant, Oklahoma; and Kerry Maggard and husband Bryan of Lafayette, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister Ann Stueven of Edgerton, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Don; her parents; two brothers, Bob and Dean; and two sisters, Helen Bode and Donna Belle Pantekoek.
