Henry C. Parker

Henry C. Parker Henry C. Parker, age 94, of Manhattan, died April 9, 2018, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born January 21, 1924, in Manhattan, the son of Orville and Maybelle (Shawn) Parker, and had been a lifetime Manhattan resident.

Henry was the owner and operator of a furniture repair, upholstery, and venetian blind repair business for many years. Henry had had a very large garden, grew African violets and geraniums that he sold to Eastside and Westside Markets.

He was very active in the IOOF (Odd Fellows) and had served as the Grand Master, Chief Matriarch, Lodge Deputy, Captain Cantons, Under Sentry in General Military Council and the Legislative Committee of IOOF Grand Lodge.

Each year the Peter John Loux Award is presented by the Cerebral Palsy Research foundation of Kansas, Inc. in recognition and honor of an outstanding Kansas resident who has demonstrated exceptional desire and dedication in overcoming the difficulties caused by physical or neurological disability. Each year nominations are accepted by the foundation and three finalists are selected each year. In 2012, Henry was a proud recipient of this award, which included a monetary value of $1,000.00 and a plaque.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosemary, and his brother Keith.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14th, at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan. Family and friends are invited to meet at 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home to form a procession to the cemetery.
