Marie Renz

Marie Renz Marie (Holtman) Renz, age 100, of Manhattan, died March 30, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born December 8, 1917, in Walsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew and Ida (Nelson) Holtman.

Marie graduated from Leonardville High School and received her Teacher’s Certificate from Kansas State College.

She taught in Bala for several years.

On February 15, 1942, in the Walsburg Lutheran Church she was married to Virgil F. Renz.

They owned and operated the Manhattan Hatchery until after Virgil’s death in 1967. She then worked for Citizen State Bank until retiring in 1979.

Marie was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and formerly the Manhattan Dance Club.

She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, reading, was a great cook and loved to spend time with her family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her three children: Karen Medlin of Manhattan, Allen Renz and his wife Amy of Manhattan, and Judy Keith of Madison, Alabama; five grandchildren: Charles Renz (Sandi), Deambra Renz, Ashley Gaskins (Greg), Bret Medlin and Lindsay Lowe (Roscoe); and seven great-grandchildren: Lucas and Parker Renz, Ella and Lucca Lowe, Gregory, Gabi and Maggie Gaskins.

She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Neal Medlin and her brother Art Holtman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 5th, at the First Lutheran Church, 930 Poyntz Avenue, with Reverend Jerry Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
