Marcus L. Hoover, Jr.

Marcus L. Hoover, Jr. Marcus L. Hoover, Jr. (Age 68), died on March 24, 2018, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Born on August 15, 1949 in Stuttgart, Germany, to the late LTC Marcus L. Hoover and Liselotte Hoover.

Marcus grew up in reconstruction era Germany where his father and mother were actively engaged in repairing post-war German-American relations. He grew up bi-lingual, attending American dependent schools, enjoyed a full life traveling in Europe, skiing in Switzerland where his Mom was born, and having many German and American friends.

After graduating from college in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1971, he came to Manhattan to attend KSU. He lived and worked in Manhattan for 45+ years, contributing to his community as a true "Kansan." He also loved his church, First Lutheran, where he worshiped and later worked for 10 years.

He is survived by his beloved brother Michael Hoover (Christine) of McLean, VA, Nephew Ryan Hoover (Sara) and his son Colin of Tucson, AZ, Cousin Eva Zurbruegg of Bern, Switzerland. He is also remembered by Christine's many siblings and family members living in New England with whom he regularly interfaced on social media. Friends in Germany have also conveyed their sympathies and sadness on Marc's passing. Marc was a truly gentle, compassionate, and caring person, and his thoughtfulness, infectious smile, and positive demeanor will be missed by so many.

The family would also like to thank the many caring and loving people in Manhattan with whom Marcus interacted over the years, for their help, prayers and well wishes during his lengthy illness. His love for this community was always evident, and we are grateful for so many reaching out to remember him.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 4th, at the First Lutheran Church, 930 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with Reverend Jerry Reynolds officiating.
