Deanna Staatz

Deanna Staatz Deanna Marcella Ray Staatz, 77, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed peacefully on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia.

She was born August 10, 1940 at Fort Riley, Kansas the daughter of William Ray and Doris Maxine Gieber Ray. Her father was a career Army Officer and she traveled the world where she lived in Japan and Germany. Deanna always called Manhattan and Ogden home. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1958.

She married Julius David “J.D.” Staatz on February 2, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ogden, Kansas. Prior to marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in Manhattan.

The Staatz family has lived and moved several times as J.D. was promoted within Communications Services, Inc a cable TV firm headquartered in Junction City, Kansas. They lived in Ogden and Salina, Kansas where she loved being on a bowling team. Later they moved to Beeville, Texas where she served in the local sorority that provided community services.

During her life, Deanna chose to stay at home and raise her two boys David and Michael. After the boys moved out, she worked for Dundee Leather Company, in Yoakum, designing western belts. Deanna also served as the PTA president at St. Joseph’s School in Yoakum. She has always served and supported her family, the Catholic Church, and her community during her life.

When J.D. retired from the Cable business, they moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in 2000. She enjoyed painting, reading books, travelling, her family, and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.D., son Michael, three brothers William Dennis, John Raymond, Douglas Andrew Ray, two grandchildren Jennifer and Luis.

She leaves her son, David Jay Staatz of Fredericksburg, Virginia; her uncle, John Henry Gieber Jr. of Ogden, Kansas; eight grandchildren Ariadna, Kelsey, Joshua, Dylan, Jacob, Brandon, Tyler, and Alyssa and two great grandchildren Alexander and Audrey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 St. Patrick’s Church, Ogden, Kansas, with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Staatz will receive family and friends at 6:30pm to 8pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.
