Larry E. Wohler

Larry E. Wohler Larry E. Wohler, age 73, of Manhattan, died Saturday March 10, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Larry Eugene Wohler was born on October 13, 1944 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Eugene and Cleo Wohler. Larry was raised on the family farm near Bodaville, Kansas. He graduated from Barnes High School with the class of 1962.

After graduation Larry went on to trade school in Kansas City for auto body repair. When he completed trade school he went to work for Bigler Body Repair in Clay Center until 1966. He then went to work for Kansas State University. Larry retired on October 12, 1999 after 33 years. During his tenure at KSU, Larry opened and worked at Wohler’s Used Furniture on 3rd Street in Manhattan. He continued working after retirement until he was forced to close his furniture store due to city renovations.

Larry had a great talent of woodworking. He would refinish any type of furnishings and make them look new again. He also had a great talent of caning chairs. Any old piece of furniture he could tinker with and restore was one of his many hobbies. His other hobbies included antiques, attending auctions, and fishing on the family farm. One of his favorite hobbies was firing up the grill. He loved grilling and mastered it well. Larry also had a great love of dogs and country music.

He was a member of the American Legion, the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, and also served in the Army National Guard.

On November 18, 1965, Larry was united in marriage to Marilyn Simmons, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. She survives at their home in Manhattan.

He is also survived by his mother, Cleo Wohler-Klocke, of Manhattan; his son, Scott, of Manhattan; and his daughter, Lisa, of Kansas City.

Larry was very active throughout his life and at times seemed never to slow down. However, there comes a time in life the God decides it’s time to rest. It’s now that time. Rest now Larry. You will be missed by many.

Funeral services for Larry will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 15, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan or to the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
