Martha C. Abbott

Martha  C. Abbott Martha Catherine Abbott, age 92, of Manhattan, died February 22, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born April 4, 1925, in Manhattan, the daughter of Clyde Marion and Alma Mary (Johnson) Mounts.

Martha was married to Alvin D. Abbott at the First Baptist Church in Manhattan on September 10, 1944.

She worked along side her husband for many years on the family farm and as the bookkeeper for the family businesses. She also worked for Kansas Farm Bureau for five years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was active as a 4-H leader when her children were growing up, was a member of College Hill HDU, and enjoyed traveling and reading. Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Martha is survived by her husband Alvin of Manhattan; three children: Karen Abbott, Nancy Wood and her husband Larry, and Tom Abbott and his wife Ruth all of Manhattan; one sister, Jean Dallinga of Riverton, Utah; six grandchildren: Brian and Ian Abbott, Katie Smith, Doug, Lee and Jon Wood; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Hannagan.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 26th, at the First Baptist Church, 2121 Blue Hills Road, Manhattan, with Reverend John C. Parsley officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time on Monday at the church prior to the services.
