Verla M. McCabe
Verla Mae McCabe, age 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the Homestead Assisted Living in Manhattan where she had been a resident since moving to Manhattan in 2012.

She was born on May 22, 1929, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer R. and Ella Bertie (Stevenson) Foose. Verla was raised in Matfield Green, Kansas where she attended local schools, graduating from Matfield Green High.

On June 20, 1948, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Claude E. McCabe. They made their home in Strong City, Kansas and then Cottonwood Falls prior to moving to Topeka in 1955.

Verla was a cook for Topeka schools for 10 years and then cooked for the Topeka Meals on Wheels program for an additional 4 years. She was also a loving homemaker to her family.

Verla enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Topeka Women’s Bowling Association. She was also a former member of the Topeka First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four sons: Mike McCabe (Julie), Minot, ND; Dan McCabe, Topeka, KS; David McCabe (Ruth), Osage City, KS; and Gary McCabe (Rhonda) of Manhattan. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren.

Verla was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers: Lawrence and Donald Foose and by thee great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Matfield Green Cemetery in Matfield Green, Kansas with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating.
