Ed Hood

Ed Hood Ed Hood, age 84, died on Wednesday January 31, 2018 surrounded by family in Manhattan, Kansas.

He was born on November 9, 1933 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Fred and Estella Hood. He graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1956. Ed was united in marriage to Dreeanna Christie on October 6, 1956 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This union was blessed with 4 children: Kevin, Kelley, Christie and Scott.

Ed joined the United States Army in 1957 and honorably served until his retirement in 1978 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. His last tour of duty was as a finance and accounting officer at Fort Riley. Following his military retirement, Ed pursued his passion for breeding and raising Quarter Horses. He loved doing this for the last 40 years. Ed enjoyed mentoring young people, both in the military and in his later years with Kansas State University students.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Fred Hood. Survivors include his wife Dreeanna; son: Kevin Hood of Penrose, CO; daughter: Kelley Cook of Shawnee, KS; daughter: Christie Todd of Austin, TX and son: Scott Hood of Manhattan, KS. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 with Full Military Honors at the Sales Cemetery, Westmoreland, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas State University Veterinary Scholarship Fund in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
