Larry D. Roland

Larry D. Roland Larry D. Roland, age 74, of Manhattan, died Monday January 15, 2018 peacefully at his home in Manhattan.

He was born on May 1, 1943 in Manhattan, the son of Eldred V. and Betty J. (Rose) Roland. He grew up in the area and graduated with the Manhattan High School class of 1961. After high school Larry joined the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged in 1965.

On May 6, 1966 he was united in marriage to Patricia Carney. They later divorced.

Mr. Roland worked in construction, doing foundation work for Lewis Construction and then for Tim Wege Construction.

Larry enjoyed spending time at Kleepers on 17th Street and then Daras. He enjoyed spending time there visiting with people, doing the lottery and having a good cup of coffee. In the evening he would read the newspapers and do the cryptoquote in the paper.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry is survived by his three children: Laurie Roland, Richie Roland (Michelle), and Sheri Roland; his grandchildren: Kolton Hanifan and Melinda Roland; his brothers, Bill Roland (Susie), of Abilene, and Chuck Roland of Austin, Texas; his sisters, Debbie Plummer, of Topeka, and Barb Price (Ray), of Manhattan; and his many nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.

The family will greet friends during a reception on Sunday February 11, 2018 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Flint Hills Discovery Center-Blue Earth Room, 315 South 3rd Street in Manhattan.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday February 12, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road in Manhattan, with Pastor Amy Bowers officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, to help with funeral expenses.
