Alan L. Phillips ALAN LEE PHILLIPS

Alan Lee Phillips, age 83, of Olsburg, Kansas, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland, Kansas.

He was born on February 16, 1934, in Manhattan, Kansas the son of Kenneth and Ramona (Norton) Phillips. Alan was raised in Manhattan where he attended local schools, graduating from Manhattan High. He then attended Kansas State Agricultural College where he received a Bachelor’s degree. While at Kansas State he became a farm youth exchange student and went to Norway.

In October of 1958 he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served his country as a Field Radio Repairman during the height of the Cold War era. He was honorably discharged in October of 1962.

Following the construction of Tuttle Creek Reservoir in the late 1950’s his family was displaced and so they moved to Nebraska. Alan served as the Fire Chief and Mayor in Goehner, Nebraska and was an ordained minister.

On June 10, 1972, in Lincoln, Nebraska he was united in marriage to the former Donna J. Sims. It was while visiting the Phillips Family farm pasture near Olsburg, Kansas in the early 1970’s that they became inspired and decided their life mission would be to form a retreat at that location. In 1974 they founded the Living Water Ranch Retreat and Conference Center. This God-inspired retreat has become a beloved location, not only to area residents but to countless others who come for rest, relaxation, business, pleasure or simply to get away from life’s distractions.

Alan is survived by his wife and by seven adult children and their spouses, seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, one sister and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Living Water Ranch Lodge, 4122 Living Water Road, Olsburg, Kansas 66520. A light lunch will follow the celebration.
