Jean L.  Zemp

Jean Lillian Zemp, age 89, of Manhattan, formerly of Warren, Michigan, died Friday December 29, 2017 at the Stormont-Vail Health Care Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born on October 9, 1928 in Bedford, England, the daughter of Harold and Jessie (Pattle) Ellis.

On April 3, 1954 in Bedford, England she was united in marriage to Edmund Zemp. He survives at their home in Manhattan.

Jean and Edmund immigrated to the United States in 1961 and moved to Warren, Michigan. While living in Michigan she worked for The Chrysler Corporation from 1966 until she retired in 1989. Earlier this month she and Edmund moved to Manhattan to live close to her daughter Anne Byford and her family.

She had many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and loved also to cook and read. She cherished her family. Jean said her most significant accomplishment was being a mom and raising two lovely girls. Her grandchildren were also very precious to her.

Jean was a Christian woman. She trusted in Jesus as her Savior. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. Both of her daughters married pastors.

She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Ellis, who died at the age of 4 and also her brother Fred Ellis and his wife Dorothy.

In addition to her husband survivors include her daughters: Christine Fletcher and her husband Rev. Joe Fletcher, of the Bronx, NY, and Anne Byford and her husband Rev. David Byford, of Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Byford and Barbara Jean Zhao and her husband Yang Zhao; and also her great-grandchild, Benjamin Zhao.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday January 3, 2018 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday January 4, 2018 at the Faith Baptist Church, 1001 South Scenic Drive in Manhattan, with Rev. David Byford and Rev. Joe Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502 is assisting the family with the funeral arrangments.
