Mary E. Joerg

Mary E. Joerg Mary Elizabeth (Grisier) Joerg passed away December 29, 2017 in Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born December 31, 1915, to Fred and Emma (Pringle) Grisier in Woodson County, Kansas. After graduating from Yates Center High School, she attended Strickler’s Business College in Topeka.

In 1938, she married Ernest “Mason” Joerg, and together they had four children, Karen, Philip, Regina, and Cynthia.

Mary worked for Kansas State University Extension, retiring in 1976. In retirement, she became an avid genealogist, and her family will be forever grateful for the extensive research she painstakingly gathered and organized for them. She and Mason enjoyed fifty years of marriage, living in various parts of the country and traveling many places to visit family and friends.

A wonderful mother and grandmother, she is survived by her devoted daughters, Karen (Jack) Whittier, of Lakewood, Colorado; Regina (David) Koch, of Laramie, Wyoming; and Cynthia (William) Bates, of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren Camille Hewett, Stephanie G’Schwind, Erick Whittier, Aaron Koch, Tia McConnell, Janice Waterworth, and Jeremy Bates; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Philip Joerg; brother, Robert Grisier; sister Esther (Grisier) Lewis; and sister Gladys Grisier.

A memorial will be held on Sunday December 31, 2017 at 3:00 at Via Christi Chapel in Manhattan, Kansas.
