Greig R. Olney

Greig R. Olney Greig Robert Olney, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, Dec 6, 2017 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

He was born on October 11th, 1960 in Manhattan Kansas, the son of Dr. Robert Dudley Olney and Dorothy Elaine (Washburn) Olney. He grew up in Manhattan, where he attended public schools. He was active in music and played the saxophone in the Manhattan High School marching band. He always looked forward to the annual family trip to Minnesota.

In 1980, Greig completed his Associate of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Kansas Technical Institute in Salina, which has since become part of Kansas State University System; and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology & Computer Engineering Technology from Kansas State University-Manhattan in 1985.

Greig worked in computer design in the Kansas City area before he moved to Rolla, MO in 1989 to work at the University of Missouri –Rolla as a Senior Electronics Technician. In 1996 he moved to Platteville, WI to work for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as a Software Engineer and Engineering Physics Lab Manager. He moved back to Manhattan in 2004 and worked for Kansas State University as a repair technician.

Greig loved to fish, especially at the family property at Tuttle Creek, and loved anything outdoors. He had a love of music throughout his life, mostly classic rock and roll. At one time, he was a volunteer student disc jockey at a university radio station. He attended University Christian Church in Manhattan, where he operated the sound system for the praise band. He liked to build things, and gave hand-made gifts to his family. Greig loved animals, and had a soft, companionate heart for his dogs as well as other people in his life.

Greig had several relationships in his life. Greig married Sheela Yadav in 1993, divorced in 1999; although divorced they continued to maintain a special and mutually supportive friendship throughout his life. Toni Keller, who was a very close friend of Greig's from 2004 until today who provided loving support and encouragement; and Cris Garcia who loved him dearly the last nine months of his life.

Greig is survived by his brothers, Brent and wife Becky of Wichita, Brad and wife Dawn of Prairie Village, Ks, and Mark and wife Pam, Winfield, KS; nieces and nephews, Blake Olney, Meredith Konicki and husband Shane, Adrienne Olney, Megan Olney, Travis Lindeman and wife Keti, Chad Olney and wife Tessa, Scott Olney and great-nephew, Thomas Lindeman.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date for family and close friends.
