Clara D. Smith

Clara D. Smith Clara J. Olson Douthit Smith, 65, died on Saturday November 18, 2017 at her residence in Keats, KS following a lengthy illness.

She was born on July 6, 1952 at Fort Riley, the daughter of Odin Chester and Augustine J. (Dizman) Olson. Graduated from Garner Senior HS, Garner, N.C. Clara was a wonderful homemaker for her family, but also worked many different jobs until shortly after married to Michael including Pinkertons Security, Sewed Tobacco Sacks, as a Taxi Driver and several other things.

On June 27, 1995, she was united in marriage to Michael A. Smith at the Sedalia Church, Sedalia, KS.

Clara enjoyed keeping herself busy with crafts, sewing, writing and adult color books. She had a deep love for animals of any kind. She was also passionate about preserving her family history for future generations. She loved doing things to help and support others including using adoption services to adopt families and villages in Uganda, ASPCA, and supporting the Food Pantry of Riley, KS as well as the Riley programs for Thanksgiving Food and Christmas Presents for families. Above all, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Michael of the home; her son: William Douthit and his wife Nicole of Manhattan; two grandchildren: Coleman and Melanie Douthit of Manhattan; a sister: Mary Pauli and her husband Ron of Keats; a brother: Odin Olson and his wife Annemarie of Manhattan; father-in-law: Rex Smith and his wife Joyce of Daleville, MS and her mother-in-law: Linda Smith of Pensacola, FL.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday November 28, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley, Manhattan, Kansas.

There will be no visitation the day prior.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Food Pantry, Riley, KS in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
