Virginia Jeanne Marcell

Virginia Jeanne Marcell Virginia Jeanne Marcell, age 97, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Saturday morning, October 28, 2017, at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

She was born on March 26, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Walter S. and Vivian E. (Gutshall) Reese. Virginia was raised in Des Moines where she attended local schools graduating from Roosevelt High School; and later attended business college in Wichita, Kansas.

Virginia lived in numerous communities throughout her lifetime where she worked as a secretary for various businesses in addition to being a loving homemaker to her family. She had been a Manhattan resident since 1998.

Virginia enjoyed traveling, antiquing and outdoor activities. She also had a passion for cats and enjoyed having one as a companion until her health began to fail and she was no longer able to care for one.

In 1973, in Bisbee, Arizona, she was united in marriage to Victor Marcell and he preceded her in death. Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents, by one son: Robert D. Miller, one daughter: Pamela J. Hockaday and by her sister: Barbara Alexander.

She is survived by one daughter: Jolanna S. Woodring, Manhattan, Kansas, and by two sons: Thomas A. Miller of Nevada and John S. Miller of Texas. Thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also survive.

Cremation is planned with private family inurnment services to be held at a later date in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
