Julius David "J.D." Staatz

Julius David Julius David Staatz, 79, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 in the CHI-St. Vincent Hospital, Hot Springs, Arkansas from complications of lung cancer.

He was born December 23, 1937 in Wabaunsee County, KS, the son of Melvin A. Staatz and Dora Mae Church Staatz. He grew up in the Manhattan area and attended Manhattan High School.

He was united in marriage to Deanna Ray Staatz on February 2, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ogden, KS.

The Staatz family lived in Beeville and Yoakum Texas and later moved to Hot Springs Village in 2001 to celebrate retirement.

Mr. Staatz served in the Navy post Korea for four years before working in the Cable TV business. He worked for Communications Services, Inc approximately 30+ years before retiring in 2000.

He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren Jennifer and Luis.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Deanna Staatz of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; son David Jay Staatz and wife Yadira Staatz of Fredericksburg, Virginia; son Michael Jay Staatz of Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandchildren Ariadna, Kelsey, Joshua, Dylan, Jacob, Brandon, Tyler, and Alyssa, and two great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Saint Patrick’s Church in Ogden, with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Ogden.

The family of Mr. Staatz will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Red Cross (to be used for hurricane relief in Texas). Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
