Douglas R. Fairchild

Douglas R. Fairchild Douglas R. Fairchild, age 63, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday, August 24, 2017, at his residence in Manhattan.

Doug was born on December 5, 1953, in Burnsville, North Carolina, the son of Reece and Phyllis D. (Lewis) Fairchild. He attended East Yancey High School in Burnsville and later earned his GED. He moved to Manhattan in 1970 and was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

As a career Doug was employed as a roofer and had worked for several subcontractors in the area before his retirement.

One of his passions was playing and teaching guitar in addition to collecting guitars. He also was a talented artist, and enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes. Doug also enjoyed watching sports and playing pick-up games of basketball.

He is survived by four siblings: Donna J. Hensley, Mayetta, KS; Delmar T. Fairchild and his companion Juli Welliver, Manhattan, KS, Delores K. Mulanax and Denise R. Fairchild, all of Manhattan. He will also be missed by his cat “Two Coat” who he adored.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother: Dusti D. Fairchild.

Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
