Peggy Jean Nelson

Peggy  Jean Nelson Peggy J. Nelson, age 86, died Wednesday July 5, 2017 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan.

Peggy Jean Nelson was born on a farm northeast of Riley on September 15, 1930 to Oscar Bennett Springer and Mable Ruth (Rubart) Springer. She attended one room country schools and graduated from Riley Rural High School in 1948.

Peggy married Robert L. Nelson in 1949 at the Manhattan Bible College (Manhattan Christian College). Robert preceded Peggy in death in November, 1986.
Peggy worked at Kansas Power and Light (Westar) for 23 years until she retired in 1985.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Clark and her brother, Oscar Springer.

Survivors include two daughters: Patricia Swander, Denver, CO and Katherine Brown, Manhattan; her son, Steven Nelson, and his wife, Elizabeth, Manhattan. Peggy is also survived by six grandsons: Jeff Swander, Tim Swander and his wife Ashley, Logan Brown, Trenton Nelson and his wife Rawni; Scott Nelson and Evan Nelson and two great grandchildren, Landon and Shelby Swander; her sister Brenda Kientz of Riley, and her brother, Robert Springer of Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday July 15, 2017 at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with the Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
