Janette A. "Jan" Journey

Janette A. Janette “Jan” A. Journey, 78, of Manhattan, Kansas, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

Jan was born February 19, 1939, to the late Clyde and Alta Carlson, and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1957. Following graduation, Jan moved to Wichita and worked for Farm Credit Bank of Wichita, taking early retirement and moving back to Manhattan, where she had a second career working for Medical Associates before her retirement.

Jan is survived by her daughter Kathryn Lecy (husband Scott) of Otsego, Minnesota and Troy Journey (wife Kay) of Wichita, Kansas; her grandchildren Fletcher, Travis, and Ben Jenson; Jillian Journey, Megan Ferrari, Ashlin Creel, Caitlin Journey, Troy Journey Jr. and Kristin Journey; and great grandchildren Rory and DeVron Ferrari, Emma and Ellianna Ortega, Jordan and Julio Hernandez, Jaxson and Gracie Creel, McKenzie, Sierra, Jennalin, Savannah, Kara, Adam, Kyle and Zachary. Jan is preceded in death by her late parents and by her brother James Edwin Carlson.

Jan was an enthusiastic racing fan with an especial love for Sprint cars. She was a devoted and lifelong Manhattan High School Indian, and loved organizing her high school reunions. Jan loved shopping and country music, decorating for the holidays, and sending cards and letters to friends and family. Most of all, though, Jan’s children were her heart and soul, and they are forever enriched by her love and her example of how to live a good life.

Jan will be remembered as a woman who lived and loved fully, and she will be missed.

Memorial Services for Jan will be held at 3:00p.m. Friday July 14, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the USD383 Foundation – to be used for the Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
