Beverly Jean Azer

Beverly Jean  Azer Beverly Jean Azer, age 89, of Manhattan, went to her heavenly home on June 23, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born April 24, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of J. Willard and Grace (Hedenbergh) Peterson. In 1936, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois.

Beverly graduated from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa, in 1950. In 1953, she received her MS in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she met Naim Z. Azer, who had come to the United States from Egypt, to attain a PhD. in Mechanical Engineering. The couple were united in marriage in Alexandria, Egypt in 1961, and they lived in Egypt for the following three and one half years.

Prior to her marriage she was on the staff of the Sioux City Public Library and the Art and Architecture Library at the University of Illinois.

Surviving Beverly are her husband, Naim of the home and their two children: Mona Musil and her husband, Jim, of Blue Rapids, KS, and Magdi Azer and his wife, Kaylynn, of Champaign, IL; in addition, five grandchildren have been added to the family: Eleanor, Charles and Hannah Musil; and Nicolas and Ryan Azer.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Richard Peterson.

Beverly was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Chapter DE of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a local book group “The Bookworms”.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, 930 Poyntz Avenue, with Reverend Jerry Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
