Delores L. "Dee" Bolding

Delores  L. Delores Louise “Dee” Bolding, age 87, of Manhattan, died May 15, 2017, at her residence.

She was born January 16, 1930, on a farm near Frankfort, Kansas, the daughter of Julius D. and Pearl (Feldhausen) Anderson. She attended county schools and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1947.

Dee attended Kansas State Agricultural College and obtained a Provisional Teaching Certificate. She taught school for two years in Marshall County and then returned to Kansas State. She took the Federal Service Test and went to work at Fort Riley where she met her husband Jack. They spent 20 years with the United States Army, with Jack retiring in 1967 and they then returned to Manhattan.

When Jack went to England, she followed. She and her best friend organized the G.S of America for dependent girls. That followed her as she was Service Team Chairperson at Kaiserslautern, Germany, and at Fort Lewis, WA, earning the highest award for a volunteer the Juliette Low Statue. She volunteered at every Army post through the NCO Wives Club.

After returning to Manhattan she went to work as an optical assistant for an Optometrist for 13 years, after which she opened Fashion Eyes Optical in downtown Manhattan. She retired in 1992.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, served as President of the St. Thomas More Ladies, for six years was the co-chair for funeral dinners, and had also been the Cookie Carousel Chair. Dee was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for more than 60 years, and had served as chairperson of various committees and President several times, and was the Women of the Year and Valentine Queen. She pledged in 1952 in Manhattan and transferred her membership in every place they lived.

After her retirement she volunteered at Mercy Regional Hospital Auxiliary where she served as President. She was also a member of the Pilot Club, serving on various committees and as President in 1973-1974.

Dee is survived by her husband Jack of the home. Additional survivors include her two children: Jacque Switlik and her husband Raymond of Benbrook, TX, and Jay Bolding and his wife Lucinda of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Melanie Switlik, Jason Switlik (Lauren), Jonathan Switlik (Melanie), Dr. Jared Bolding (Michaela), Hunter Bolding (Christina), and Mckenzie Bolding; four great-grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia, Jackson and Cooper; one brother John Anderson and his wife Pat of Lawrence, KS; one sister in law Shirley Anderson of Frankfort, KS; and one brother in law Tommy Bolding of Okmulgee, OK.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Ted Anderson.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2900 Kimball Avenue, Manhattan, with Father Frank Coady as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church. A Parish Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the church.
