Alfred J. Simmons

Alfred J. Simmons Alfred J. Simmons, age 93, of Manhattan, died Saturday April 22, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

He was born on May 19, 1923 in Riley County, the son of Arch and Mable (Siron) Simmons. He grew up in the Keats area and graduated from Keats High School in 1941.

On June 25, 1944 at the Keats United Methodist Church, he was united in marriage to Mary V. Lober. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2011.

After high school Alfred worked many different jobs. He then became a policeman with the Kansas State University Police Department. He enjoyed his time at KSU and loved his job and being around campus. He retired as a Lieutenant.

Alfred was a member of the Keats United Methodist Church and later a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. He also was a member of the Elks Club, UTC, the Peace Officers Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He loved collecting anything that was John Deere, he enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially Royals baseball and KSU sports.

In addition to his wife Mary, he was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Chester and his twin brother James who died at birth.

Alfred is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Wohler and her husband Larry, of Manhattan; his grandchildren: Lisa Wohler-Fleming and her husband Nathan, of Mission, Kansas and Scott Wohler of Manhattan; his brother Archie Simmons of Manhattan, and his many friends.

The family will greet friends during a visitation at 1:00 p.m. Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley View Memorial Park on east highway 24 in Manhattan.

Memorial funds are suggested the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
