Richard E. "Dick" Brothers

Richard E. Richard E. “Dick” Brothers, age 81, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday morning, April 6, 2017, at the Meadowlark Hills-Collins House in Manhattan.

He was born on September 10, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Theodore “Ted” and Lucille “Lou” (Shaw) Brothers. He had been a Manhattan resident since 1985.

Following his high school graduation and college he was called into service with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1964 at the rank of Specialist E5.

In 1972, he went to work as a sales executive for the IMC Global Company. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Brothers was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Others memberships included the Fraternal Order of Elks and Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Doris (Klemme) Brothers. They were united in marriage on March 29, 1958, in Hubbard, Iowa. Also surviving are two daughters: Kathy Brothers of Manhattan, Cindy Winkelman and her husband Mark, of Keller, Texas; two granddaughters: Sarah Gilbert, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kristi Winkelman, Manhattan, New York and a great granddaughter: Caroline Olivia Gilbert.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Trinity Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Helen Hutchison and Rev. Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
