John L. Zarger
John L. Zarger, age 69, of Manhattan, died March 1, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
He was born April 30, 1947, in Manhattan, the son of William Zarger, Jr., and Evelyn (Loberg) Zarger.
John graduated from Manhattan High School in 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, during the Vietnam Era, as a Petty Officer and then served two years in active reserves.
Following his honorable discharge he went to work for his father as a sheet metal fabricator for Zarger Heating and Air. Following his father’s retirement he owned and operated the family business until his retirement several years ago.
John enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, helped build dirt track race cars and watching NASCAR on TV.
John is survived by his parents of Manhattan; six siblings: Joy Zarger of Manhattan, Jerry Zarger and his wife Betty of Westbrook, CT, Susan Scharfe and her husband Pierre of Manhattan, Sheri West of Manhattan, Jenny Payne and her husband Danny of Chapman, KS, and Jeanette Stinnett and her husband Rodney of St. George, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned with private family services.
